90% of Homeowners Fall For These Hidden Custom Cabinet Quotation Traps
After years of inspecting sites and reviewing cabinet quotations, I have witnessed countless homeowners trapped by low-price but misleading custom cabinet deals.
Most first-time renovators only compare unit prices and sample styles, but fail to read the hidden terms on quotation sheets. The truth in this industry is simple: 90% of low-price offers are designed to trap clients first and overcharge later.
The initial quote looks extremely attractive, but the final bill often rises by 30%–50% due to hidden extra fees.
Today I will expose the 6 most common quotation traps that cabinet stores never take the initiative to explain. These hidden pitfalls cost homeowners thousands of unnecessary expenses every year.
Trap 1: Low-price package with extremely stripped configuration
Stores widely promote 699/799 per square meter full-house packages. These seemingly all-inclusive deals only contain basic cabinet frames and plain door panels. Drawers, handles, soft-close dampers, straighteners, LED strips and adjustable layers are all excluded and charged separately.
Merchadors lock orders with ultra-low unit prices, then add fees item by item during construction. The final total cost is often much higher than standard factory pricing.
Trap 2: Extra charges for exposed side panels
This is the most profitable and hidden trap. Most quotations only calculate main cabinet areas. Exposed side panels, corner cover panels and top sealing boards are charged additionally. A single home can be overcharged by thousands of dollars, which homeowners only discover at final settlement.
Trap 3: Manipulated area calculation rules
Many stores use unfair measuring standards: Depth less than 600mm is calculated as full 600mm, corner areas are double-counted, and overlapping spaces are repeated charged. Your actual cabinet size is small, but the bill becomes surprisingly large. Most ordinary homeowners cannot spot these calculation errors.
Trap 4: Vague hardware warranty and swapped accessories
Sales verbally promise branded hardware and lifetime warranty, but the quotation only writes “standard hardware” without brand, model or soft-close function. Cheap thin iron hinges and ordinary slides are used during installation, causing noise, loosening and sticking doors. Upgrading to qualified hardware requires extra payment.
Trap 5: Limited free drawers with high over-limit fees
Low-price packages only include 2–3 free drawers. Extra drawers for wardrobes, kitchens and balconies are charged expensively. Each drawer costs hundreds of dollars, resulting in huge unexpected expenses for a full house.
Trap 6: Hidden craft fees added during construction
Cabinet straighteners, full-color edge sealing, special angle cutting, beam & column avoidance, silicone sealing, high-floor installation and stair carrying fees are all excluded from initial quotes. These necessary construction items become extra charges one by one later.
